Purchase includes:
Starter plant - 5-8" tall
Available April - Aug
Feverfew is an elementary low-maintenance, healing herb, requiring full sun to part shade, and a must for every herbal garden.
Growing Zone
It is a Perennial in zones 4-9
Keep in mind that even if this plant is an annual in your growing zone, it self-sows easily and will spread quickly if left unchecked in the garden. Removing spent flowers will prevent new plant growth in the next season.
Watering
Water when dry and avoid over-watering.
Planting
For best results transplant in spring 5-7 weeks before the last frost or in fall 3-4 weeks before the first frost. Thin the plants once a year with 12" of space in all directions.
Soil
Plant in well-drained soil. Organic soil added twice a year is sufficient fertilization - avoid overfertilizing. Adding too much nitrogen causes the plant to lose its citrus smell and produce more leaves than flowers.
Companion plants
Coreopsis, Daylily, and Coneflower.
Harvest
Harvest the leaves after the 2nd year while the flowers are in bloom. Do not cut more than 1/3 of the plant when harvesting or the plant may die.
Herb Overview
Feverfew is derived from the Latin phrase meaning "fever reducer" and has a long history as a medicinal herb for fevers and "all pains of the head". Eating 2-3 fresh leaves a day can help prevent migraines and headaches.
The herb shows beautiful small white and yellow flowers through summer and fall. The cut flowers last long in a vase, and produce a beautiful citrus smell.
Feverfew is related to the sunflower family growing 24-36" tall. This herb is also a natural insect-repellent because of its chemical, pyrethrin. Plant this in a sunny spot near sitting areas as an insect repellent against mosquitos cockroaches, flies, ants, moths, mites, and even mice and bedbugs!
